Former Lieutenant Governor of Iowa

Former Lieutenant Governor Sally Pederson is a native of Vinton, Iowa, and a graduate of Iowa State University. She is a former Executive at Meredith Corporation in Des Moines, where she was the Senior Food Editor for Better Homes and Gardens. She was elected Lt. Governor in 1998, and re-elected to a second four-year term in 2002.

In 2003, she hosted Iowa’s first statewide Summit on Disability Housing. Lt. Governor Pederson received the 2003 John F. Sanford Award from the Iowa Medical Society in recognition of her “dedicated and tireless efforts to improve the quality of health care in Iowa.”

In 2004, she was inducted into the Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame. Lt. Governor Pederson served throughout her first term on the Executive Committee of the National Lieutenant Governors Association and is the past Chair of the National Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association.  During her time as Lieutenant Governor, she also served as chair of the Iowa Democratic Party.
