BROWNBACK: His Bleedin' Heart Will Tell On You
The Hotline
March 20, 2007
Sam Brownback "told" NH crowds 3/19 "that he isn't just any conservative," and introduced himself as a "bleeding-heart conservative." Brownback, "using Ronald Reagan-like rhetoric" in Nashua, NH, "stressed his conservative record with Midwestern folksiness." Brownback "has taken positions beyond party orthodoxy" and calls himself both "pro-life" and "whole-life," a term he uses to define "his efforts to end human-rights abuses."
While in Manchester, NH, Brownback "emphasized his positions on 'values' issues -- abortion and marriage." Brownback "used a football analogy" to explain, saying: "It's like Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts without having a line in front of them. I don't think he completes very many passes if he doesn't have a line. This is basic blocking and tackling. We need to have stronger families, strong commitments, and the least thing we need to do is redefine marriage (Alarkon, Concord Monitor, 3/20). Also while in Manchester, Brownback wore a ONE campaign bracelet band (release, 3/19).
